Abstract

ABSTRACT In English, there are four skills that should be mastered by students, such as: listening, speaking, reading and writing. From the four language subject, writing is the most difficult skill because it provides a very good means of foxing the vocabulary, spelling and sentences pattern. Most of the students in SMAN 1 Penawartama especially in eleventh grade were still have difficulties in writing. From the data that were obtained from the teacher and students, it could be concluded that the technique used to teach are less effective. Others technique was offered for teaching the students writing skill, namely Peer review technique. The objective of the research was to know whether there was any significant in influence of using peer review technique towards students’ ability in writing report text or not. The method of the research was quasi experimental design. In this research, the population was at the eleventh grade of SMAN 1 Penawartama. The cluster random sampling was used as its sampling technique. The sample was two classes, class XI IPA 2 as the experimental class that taught was by using peer review technique and XI IPA 1 as the control class that taught was by using self-correction technique. Based on the data analysis, it could be concluded that Sig. (Pvalue) = 0.000, and α = 0.05. It means that H was accepted because 0,000 < 0,05. Thus, there was a significant influence of using peer review technique towards students’ ability in writing report text. Keywords: writing ability, report text, peer review technique
