Abstract

ABSTRACT This research aimed to know the types of errors made by students in using simple present and future tenses in writing invitation card and to describe each error made by students. The data was taken from the students' invitation card text writing that was written by 31 students of the eighth-grade of VIII H of MTsN 1 Bandar Lampung in the academic year of 2020/2021. This research used qualitative descriptive research design, used analysis and describe the data. The data were collected from the students and then analyzed in order to draw a conclusion. To identified the errors, the researcher chosen the error word or sentence and identified the types of error based on surface strategy taxonomy by James, included Omission, Addition, Misformation, Misordering, and Blends errors. In conclusion, based on the result of the research, the total of the students‟ errors were showed there were 48 errors found which classified into 11 Omission errors (23%), 24 Addition: Simple Addition errors (50%), 5 Misformation errors (10%), 1 Misordering error (2%), and 7 Blends errors (15%). The result showed that the most frequent error made by students was Addition: Simple Addition, which consisted of 24 errors (50%)
